{"id":22003,"date":"2016-12-18T22:06:30","date_gmt":"2016-12-18T22:06:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pre-production.taftcollege.edu\/dental-hygiene\/?page_id=22003"},"modified":"2021-08-18T20:08:38","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T20:08:38","slug":"curriculum","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/archive.taftcollege.edu\/dental-hygiene\/curriculum\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Curriculum<\/h1>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The Taft College Dental Hygiene Program prepares students for employment comprehensive dental hygiene education and the students earn an Associate in Science Degree at the completion of the 2 year curriculum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">We believe the curriculum in the TCDH Program is of broad scope and depth to reflect the objectives and philosophy of higher education by fulfilling the Mission of the Community Colleges and the Dental Practice Act.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 The curriculum provides content that increases knowledge and skill so students\u00a0<\/span>successfully pass the national and clinic board exams and obtain a license to practice dental hygiene.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Dental hygiene curriculum is designed so that each semester builds upon the next in both didactic and clinical courses.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Students must successfully complete prerequisites before they are eligible to apply to the program.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 S<\/span>tudents must successfully complete all courses in order to move into the next semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The following are major subject areas:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Prevention of disease transmission<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Patient\/operator positioning<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Time and motion management<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Prevention and\/or management of emergency situations<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Comprehensive patient assessment<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Diagnosis and planning of dental hygiene care<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Principles and methods of dental hygiene intervention<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Principles and methods of evaluating outcomes of dental hygiene care <span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Monitoring and record keeping<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s1\">Professional ethics<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">Below is a PDF of all the TCDH courses and the units and hours of each course beginning Fall 2018.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.taftcollege.edu\/dental-hygiene\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2021\/08\/AS-program-2021.pdf\">AS program 2021<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Curriculum  The Taft College Dental Hygiene Program prepares students for employment comprehensive dental hygiene education and the students earn an Associate in Science Degree at the completion of the 2 year curriculum.
