\nAnnouncement of Interim Superintendent\/President
\nI am pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees has designated Mr. Brock McMurray as the Interim Superintendent\/President, effective February 1, 2016.\u00a0 Brock will serve in this capacity while the District engages in a search for a new, permanent Superintendent\/President following the departure of Dr. Dena Maloney.\u00a0\u00a0 We anticipate that the search will be complete by June 2016.
\nBrock joined Taft College in 2001 as the Dean of Student Services.\u00a0 He became Vice President of Student Services in 2007.\u00a0 As the Vice President, Brock was responsible for leading all aspects of student services including admission and records, counseling, EOPS, DSPS, Assessment Center, and student activities.\u00a0 He was also responsible for campus safety, student housing, the Transition to Independent Living Program, and the Children\u2019s Center.
\nIn 2011, Brock assumed responsibility for Facilities, and has overseen construction and facilities projects relating to Measure A and Proposition 39.
\nIn 2013, Brock became the Executive Vice President of Administrative Services.\u00a0 He is responsible for leading Fiscal Services, Payroll, the Bookstore, Cafeteria, and Facilities.
\nThe District has engaged PPL, Inc. to conduct a national search for the next Superintendent\/President of the West Kern Community College District.\u00a0\u00a0 A search of this magnitude requires a lot of time and effort.\u00a0 In addition, Ms. Shelley Klein has announced her intention to retire no later than May 1, 2016.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To support the search for the next Superintendent\/President and the Administrative Assistant to the President and the Board, the Board of Trustees will be contracting with former Superintendent\/President Dr. Roe Darnell to serve as its liaison with the search firm.\u00a0 Dr. Darnell will provide leadership to the search process and helping to ensure a successful search during this time of change.
