{"id":3687,"date":"2016-10-03T14:52:43","date_gmt":"2016-10-03T22:52:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pre-production.taftcollege.edu\/tcwp\/cougaronline\/?p=3687"},"modified":"2016-10-03T14:52:43","modified_gmt":"2016-10-03T22:52:43","slug":"banned-books-week-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.taftcollege.edu\/echo-online\/blog\/2016\/10\/03\/banned-books-week-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Banned Books Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Denae Ayala<\/p>\n<p>From Sept. 25 through Oct. 1, the TC library held their second annual banned books display\u00a0which was\u00a0set up for students and faculty members.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Stand up for your right to read&#8221; is the message the American Library Association\u00a0wanted to get out there for teachers, students, journalists, authors, and readers of all types.<\/p>\n<p>At the TC library there\u00a0are no banned books, nor will any books be\u00a0banned.\u00a0TC students have\u00a0the freedom to read whatever they want.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Decker, TC&#8217;s library technician\u00a0along with\u00a0librarian assistant Miranda Tafte \u00a0spent a month setting up the\u00a0display. The display consisted of\u00a0a variety\u00a0of books that were\u00a0banned from libraries and schools. Each book\u00a0had tabs on them with\u00a0written reasons\u00a0 why the book was either challenged\u00a0or banned.<\/p>\n<p>Students and faculty members were welcome to take a trivia question quiz about the different books that were challenged in schools all around the world. New questions were posted everyday of the week. All correct answers were entered into a drawing for prizes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone should be entitled to the First Amendment,&#8221; said Decker.
