These right include the right to reproduce or distribute a copyrighted work. In the file-sharing context, downloading, or\u00a0 uploading substantial parts of a copyrighted work without authority constitutes an infringement.<\/p>\n<p>Penalties for copyright infringement include civil and criminal penalties.\u00a0 In general, anyone found liable for civil copyright infringement may be ordered to pay either actual damages or &#8220;statutory&#8221; damages affixed at not less than $750 and not more than $30,000 per work infringed.\u00a0 for &#8220;willful&#8221; infringement, a court may award up to $150,000 per work infringed.\u00a0 A court can, in its discretion, also assess costs and attorneys&#8217; (2.0) grade point average (GPA) and a minimum grade of &#8216;C&#8217; in all courses in the major (field of study) and competency fields.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 class=\"p7\"><span class=\"s1\">Certificate of Achievement and Local Certificates<\/span><\/h5>\n<p class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\">Certificate of Achievement and Local Certificates are designed for students interested in programs of instruction with a high degree of specialization.\u00a0 Programs vary in length and generally require less than two years of full-time study to complete.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.taftcollege.edu\/iarp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2020\/04\/Taft-College-Educational-Master-Plan-2014-2024.pdf\"><strong>Plan for Improving Academic Programs<\/strong><\/a><\/h4>\n<p>Taft College does not have any student abroad programs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Transfer Credit Policies<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left\">Articulation<\/h4>\n<p>Articulation agreement information is available for the CSU and UC education systems.\u00a0 Students may also be provided with further information by contacting a counselor.<\/p>\n<p>Articulation agreements are not available with all campuses.<\/p>\n<p>Students should plan on meeting as much lower division pre-major course articulation work as possible prior to transfer.\u00a0 This will not guarantee a student will be admitted; right to inspect and review their education records, to request to amen their educational records and to limit disclosure of personally identifiable information contained in education records.<\/p>\n<p>Student education records are defined as records, files, documents, and other materials which contain information directly related to a student and are maintained by the institution or by a party acting for the institution.\u00a0 Education records are NOT: sole possession records, law enforcement unit records, employment records, medical records, or post-attendance records.<\/p>\n<p>The college may disclose information without student consent to the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>School officials with legitimate educational interest;<\/li>\n<li>In response to a request for directory information;<\/li>\n<li>Specified officials for audit or evaluation or compliance with education programs;<\/li>\n<li>Appropriate parties in connection with financial aid to a student;<\/li>\n<li>Organizations conducting certain studies for or on behalf of the school<\/li>\n<li>Accrediting organizations;<\/li>\n<li>To comply with a judicial order or lawfully issued subpoena;<\/li>\n<li>Appropriate officials in cases of health and safety emergencies; and<\/li>\n<li>State and local authorities, within a juvenile justice system, pursuant to specific State law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All currently enrolled and former Taft College students, regardless of age, are protected under FERPA.<\/p>\n<p>FERPA Annual Notification<\/p>\n<p>Student Records &#8211; Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Student Release of Information<\/p>\n<p>The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) afford student certain rights with respect to his\/her education records.\u00a0 They are:<\/p>\n<p>The right to inspect and review the student&#8217;s education records within 45 days of the day Taft College received a request for access.\u00a0 Students should submit to the Registrar\/Director of Admissions, the student shall be advised of the correct official to whom the request should be addressed.<\/p>\n<p>The right to request the amendment of the student&#8217;s education records that the student believes is inaccurate.\u00a0 Students may ask Taft College to amend a record that they believe is inaccurate.\u00a0 The student should write the Director, clearly identify the part of the record he\/she wants changed and specify why it is inaccurate.\u00a0 If Taft College decides not to amend the record as requested by the student, the student shall be notified of the decision and advised as to his\/her right to a hearing.<\/p>\n<p>The right to consent to disclosures of personally identifiable information contained in the student&#8217;s education records, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent.\u00a0 One exception which permits disclosure without consent is disclosure to school officials with legitimate educational interests.\u00a0 A school official is a person employed by Taft College in an administrative, supervisory, academic, research, or support staff position (including law enforcement personnel and health staff); a person or company with whom Taft College has contracted (such as an attorney, auditor, collection agent, degree conferral &amp; transcript processing agent, document managing agent, and placement sites for internship or similar student work\/study opportunities); a person serving on the Board of Trustees; a student serving on an official committee, such as a disciplinary or grievance committee, or assisting another school official in performing his or her tasks; consultants, volunteers or other outside parties to whom Taft College has outsourced institutional services of functions which would otherwise use employees to perform.\u00a0 A school official has a legitimate educational interest if the official needs to review an education record in order to fulfill his or her professional responsibility.\u00a0 As allowed within FERPA guidelines, Taft College may disclose education records without consent to officials of another school, upon request in which a student seeks or intends to enroll.<\/p>\n<p>The right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by Taft College to comply with the requirement of FERPA.<\/p>\n<p>The name and address of the office which administers FERPA is:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Family Policy Compliance Office<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">U.S. Department of Education<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">400 Maryland Avenue, SW<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Washington, DC, 20202-4605<\/p>\n<p>At its discretion, Taft College may provide directory information in accordance with the provisions of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.\u00a0 Directory information is defined as information which would not generally considered harmful or an invasion of privacy if disclosed.\u00a0 Designated directory information at Taft College included the following: student participated in officially recognized activities and sports including weight, height, and high school of graduation of athletic team members.\u00a0 Degrees and awards received by students, including honors, scholarship awards, athletic awards and the President&#8217;s and Vice President&#8217;s Lists of recognition.\u00a0 Students may withhold directory information by notifying the Director of Admissions in writing; please note such withholding requests are binding for all information to all parties other than for those exceptions allowed under the Act.\u00a0 Students should consider all aspects of a directory hold prior to filing such a request.\u00a0 Requests for non-disclosure will be honored by Taft College for no more than one academic year.\u00a0 Re-authorization to withhold directory information must be filed annually in the Admissions and Records Office.<\/p>\n<p>Taft College&#8217;s Annual Notification to student is consistent with its obligations under FERPA.\u00a0 Taft College annually notifies students and their parents of the rights accorded to them by FERPA. Students and their parent shall be advised of their rights regarding educational records in the Taft College schedule, student handbook, and the Taft College website.<\/p>\n<p>For additional information on FERPA or student confidentiality contact: The Registrar\/Director of Admissions at (661) 763-7870.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Instructional Facilities and Labs&#8221;][vc_column_text]Taft College provides instructional and laboratory facilities needed to support each of its academic programs.\u00a0 Contact the chairperson for the department for specific information about the facilities and resources available to support the academic program.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Military Service School Credit&#8221;][vc_column_text]Taft College will grant credit to veterans for active military service.\u00a0 The maximum general credit is 8 semester units &#8211; 4 for having completed basic training and 2 for each of the first 2 years of service.\u00a0 Credit is also granted for educational work completed in the various service schools in accordance with the recommendations of the American Council of Education. This credit will be applied to help meet the requirements for graduation but is subject to acceptance by any other college to which the student transfers.\u00a0 The maximum credit allowed for all military service experience is 20 units.\u00a0 Duplicate credit will not be given in both high school and college.\u00a0 If a veteran uses service credits to complete high school graduation requirements, these same units may not be used to fulfill college graduation requirements. If the aid is a loan, the student has the right to know what the interest rate is, the total amount to be repaid, when the repayment is to begin, and the conditions of deferment and cancellation.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge of how Taft College determines whether students are making \u201cSatisfactory Academic Progress\u201d and the consequences of not meeting this requirement.<\/li>\n<li>A student has the right to challenge or appeal the student\u2019s financial aid award or any other decision of the Financial Aid and Scholarship Department pertaining to the student, which does not fall under the jurisdiction of federal or state regulations. The right includes: answers to questions, explanations of policies and decisions and request for reconsideration.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Responsibilities<\/h4>\n<p>Students at Taft College applying for and receiving financial aid are responsible for the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Reviewing and considering all information about Taft College academic programs before enrolling.<\/li>\n<li>Completing all the application forms ACCURATELY AND COMPLETELY and submitting them to the right place on time. If this is not done, financial aid could be delayed. Since errors because misunderstanding and misrepresentation of information provided, errors must be corrected before any financial aid can be received. Intentional misreporting of information on application forms for federal financial aid is a violation of the law and is considered a criminal offense subject to penalties under the U.S. Criminal Code, and subjects the student\u2019s application to denial. Additionally, regulations require that all cases of suspect fraud emanating from misrepresentation, be reported to the Office of the Inspector General.<\/li>\n<li>Promptly returning all additional documentation, verification, corrections and\/or new information requested by either the Financial Aid Office or the agency or agencies to which an application was submitted.<\/li>\n<li>Reading and understanding all forms the student is asked to sign.<\/li>\n<li>Notifying the lender (if the student has a loan) of changes in the name, address or school enrollment status.<\/li>\n<li>Performing the work which is agreed upon in accepting a college work-study award.<\/li>\n<li>Knowing and complying with the deadlines for application or reapplication for aid.<\/li>\n<li>Knowing and complying with the Taft College Federal Aid Refund Policy.<\/li>\n<li>Repaying financial aid funds if it is determined the student was ineligible to receive the funds.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy&#8221;][vc_column_text]Taft College is dedicated to providing financial aid to those eligible students who are achieving consistent progress toward a specific educational objective. The student is responsible for setting an objective, achieving adequate grades and completing the courses required.<\/p>\n<p>In order to be eligible to receive financial aid, students are required to enroll in a program of student leading to an approved Title IV degree or certificate at Taft College, meet the requirements of the Taft College Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy and not reached their lifetime eligibility limit.\u00a0Effective with the 2012-2013 Academic Year new federal regulations defines the lifetime eligibility limit as the equivalent of 6 full time years for Pell Grants.<\/p>\n<p>Federal regulations require schools to establish satisfactory academic progress standards for students applying for and receiving federal aid. These regulations require the Financial Aid and Scholarships Department to review all periods of a student\u2019s enrollment history regardless of whether financial aid was received, to determine if a student is making satisfactory academic progress towards an educational objective. At Taft College, a student\u2019s progress will be evaluated at the end of the fall and spring semesters and summer term by the standards outlined. Any official academic transcripts from other colleges received by Taft College will be utilized in the review of our Federal Satisfactory Academic Progress standards once the transcript has been evaluated and units have been posted to the Taft College transcript.<\/p>\n<p>These standards apply to all students who apply for and receive financial aid from any federal or state program and most institutional programs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.taftcollege.edu\/financial-aid\/satisfactory-academic-progress-policy-sap\/\">Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy<\/a>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Student Loan Information&#8221;][vc_column_text]Direct Loans are low-interest loans for students and parents to help pay for the cost of a student\u2019s education after high school. The lender is the U.S. Department of Education, though the entity the borrower deals with, the loan servicer, can be a private business.<\/p>\n<p>The Borrower Rights and Responsibilities Statement issued by the Department of Education with the Master Promissory Note includes information regarding use of the loan money, information the borrower must report to the Department of Education after the loan is received, the amount the borrower may borrow, the interest rate, payment of interest, the loan fee, repayment incentive programs, disbursement information, loan cancellation, the grace period, loan repayment information, late charges and collection costs, demand for immediate repayment, defaulting on the loan, consumer reporting agency notification, deferment and forbearance options, discharge, loan consolidation, Department of Defense and other federal agency loan repayment, and AmeriCorps program education awards.<\/p>\n<p>A Disclosure Statement is issued to the borrower by the Department of Education once the Department receives a loan origination record from the school. A Notice of Disbursement(s) Made Letter is issued to the borrower by the Department of Education once the Department receives a disbursement was made to the borrower. The Financial Aid and Scholarship Department will post additional student requirements, resolution of data conflicts and status of financial aid on Cougar Tracks.<\/p>\n<p>Students who are selected for verification by the CPS or institutionally selected by the WKCCD Financial Aid staff, must submit the signed and completed verification forms and documents, along with all supporting documentation to the Financial Aid Office at the college before the earlier of 120 days from a student&#8217;s last day of attendance or the financial award year processing deadline published annually in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/\">Federal Register<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If a student does not submit the documentation by the applicable deadline, the student forfeits his\/her Federal Pell Grant and must return any funds previously disbursed for the payment period.<\/p>\n<p>In order to confirm the information on the FAFSA or the CADAA, the Financial Aid staff will ask a student to provide specific types of documentation.\u00a0 This documentation may include tax information, personal statements, benefits summaries, and other information necessary to calculate a student&#8217;s financial need properly.\u00a0 If a student is categorized as a dependent, the staff may also request this type of information from parent(s).<\/p>\n<p>Once the information is correct, the Financial Aid Department will finish and award a student&#8217;s financial aid file.\u00a0 If the Financial Aid staff find discrepancies between the data on the FAFSA and the documents provided, the staff will use the submitted documents to make corrections to the FAFSA.\u00a0 Once the Federal Government has received the processed the corrections, the Financial Aid Department will finish awarding and packaging a student&#8217;s file.\u00a0 If students have a change or addition to their award, a new financial aid offer will be generated and emailed.<\/p>\n<p>Occasionally, students may be selected for verification by the Federal Government after they have been received their financial aid refund.\u00a0 If this occurs, the Financial Aid Department will give you 30 days to provide documentation, otherwise the student will be responsible for returning all Title IV aid received.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][\/vc_accordion][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css_animation=&#8221;&#8221;
