Taft College Athletics Department 3rd Annual Triple Play Dinner featuring Charlie Hough
The “hot stove’ baseball season is in full swing and the 3rd annual Taft College Triple Play Dinner & Auction is nearing the on-deck circle. The event will be held again at The Historic Fort in Taft on Friday January 22, 2016, with a no host cocktail bar starting at 6:00 and the dinner will begin at 7:00pm.   Salty’s Barbeque will cater the event.
Noted baseball player and author Charlie Hough is the keynote speaker. Hough was a 25-year major league baseball veteran who pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1970-1980, the Texas Rangers from 1980-1990, the Chicago White Sox from 1991-1992, concluding his career with the Florida Marlins from 1993-1994 at the age of 46.  Hough currently serves as the Los Angeles Dodgers senior advisor of player development. He is also a member of the Texas Rangers Baseball Hall of Fame. In 2012 he starred in the movie “Knuckleball” along with fellow knuckleball pitchers R.A. Dickey, Tim Wakefield and Phil Niekro. In his career Hough won 216 games, along with a 3.75 era and 2,362 strikeouts.  The Master of Ceremonies for the evening will be San Francisco 49ers beat writer Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area. Maiocco has been a San Francisco 49ers beat writer since 1995. He is also the author of three books:  Roger Craig’s Tales from the 49ers Sidelines (2004), SF 49ers:  Where Have You Gone? (2005) and SF 49ers: The Complete Illustrated History (2013).  All proceeds for this event will help support the Taft College athletic programs.
