Stop Signs On Campus
Did you know that running a stop sign in the Taft College parking lot is effectively the same as running the stop sign at Sixth and Warren?
California state law states “all the provisions of this code relating to traffic upon the highways shall be applicable to the traffic upon the driveways, paths, parking facilities, or grounds” (of a public school, state university, state college, or an educational institution).
Further, local police, deputies, and California Highway Patrol can issue citations for any Vehicle Code violation on campus. These citations have the same implications as receiving a ticket off campus.
Refer to California Vehicle Code 21113 for more details, especially paragraph (c).
